AFC on Terras’ alert

KEVIN Sandwith is one of a select few former Bluebirds displaying their wares in Blue Square Premier.
But, unlike Michael Rankine – who was an unused sub when Rushden came to town – the left-back is a virtually-certain starter for Weymouth.
In fact Sandwith has proved himself this season to be one of the club’s most inspired summer signings.
The 30-year-old began his professional career at Carlisle United in 1997 but was released by the Cumbrians in May 1998 and joined Barrow.
Again, he only made only a handful of starts at Holker Street before joining Telford United.
Comfortable either at left-back or in midfield, Sandwith has since been at Doncaster Rovers, Halifax Town, Lincoln City, Macclesfield and Chester City.
It was at the latter where manager Mark Wright enthused: “Kevin is undoubtedly one of the best players in this league at delivering a ball with his left foot, from free-kicks and corners.”
Sandwith could well be joined at the back tomorrow by new signing Jordan Collins, who has arrived on-loan from Cambridge United.
Chris McPhee and Santos Gaia, who both played in Tuesday’s 1-1 home draw with Woking, are banned after picking up five bookings.
Midfielder James Coutts, who scored against Woking, is also doubtful with a hamstring problem.
Weymouth will arrive at Holker Street in some disarray with manager John Hollins – the former Chelsea star – on gardening leave following a contract dispute.
The Dorset club has also been mired in controversy with plans to relocate and chairman Malcolm Curtis looking to sell-up. But Terras caretaker boss Alan Lewer feels the team can still reach the play-offs .
He adds: “We want to carry on all the great work John Hollins has done. The fans are a bit low at the moment so it’s down to us to pick them up.”
