AFC BIDDING TO KEEP BRODIE

BARROW AFC will not give up the ghost on star striker Richard Brodie after tomorrow’s home game with Weymouth (kick-off 3pm).
York City have indicated that the player’s one-month loan spell will not be extended when the deal runs out at the weekend.
However, Barrow AFC joint-managers Dave Bayliss and Darren Sheridan want to keep Brodie at Holker Street if at all possible.
And the 21-year-old England C international yesterday told the Evening Mail how he would love to play for Barrow against Brentford in the FA Cup next Friday.
Bayliss today said that they were still trying to sort out an arrangement with York.
He states: “Twenty-four hours can be a long time in football.
“There are indications that he would go back to York and not be playing, which is harsh on a lad of his age.
“The player likes it here and the fans have taken to him.”
However, Bayliss warned that there was no guarantee the club would try to sign him in the January transfer window.
He added: “Richard has done brilliant for us but there are other players out there as well.”
Sheridan said he had been dealing with York manager Colin Walker over the Brodie loan.
He said: “We’re still trying to sort something out with York but there are things going on upstairs there.
“If the player goes back and he’s not playing he’s not going to be too happy,”
Sheridan said that both the Brodie and the FA Cup saga should not distract from the importance of the league game with Weymouth at Holker Street.
Chris Thompson and Nat Kerr, who were both cup-tied for the midweek win over Eastbourne, are back in the squad while Andy Bond is still struggling with a knee injury.
Alan Martin is making good recovery from the ankle injury sustained playing for Scotland under-21s on Tuesday and could vie with Tim Deasy for the keeper’s slot.
The managers are also looking next week to extend Martin’s loan deal from Leeds United into a third month.
Adds Sheridan: “We want to have two quality keepers on our books if at all possible.”
“There will be a bit of chopping and changing from last week’s league game at Ebbsfleet.
“It is important we keep the run going and pick up another three points from our home games.”
