JONAH CLOCKS UP 200 GAMES

PAUL Jones will notch up a landmark 200th appearance when he leads the team out at Holker Street tomorrow, writes GRAHAM DIXON.

The Bluebirds skipper, who is in his second spell with the club, continues to fight off younger contenders and confound his critics.

AFC joint-manager Dave Bayliss paid tribute, calling his captain an old fashioned centre half.

He said: “Jonah knows his limits and does nothing he can’t do, I respect that. If there’s any doubt the ball goes into touch.

“He’s been different class this season, some people said he would struggle but he proves them wrong.

“Places we went last season, you wouldn’t want anyone else at the heart of the team.

“He is brilliant in the air, and keeps tight on the forwards not allowing them to manoevre.”

Jones, a Liverpool businessman, told the Evening Mail it was an exciting time to be at the club.

He added: “I think I might have notched up 150 appearances at Hyde but this is a nice landmark to reach at Barrow.

“I’ve got an ongoing achiles problem which flares up now and again but hopefully can keep going as long as the club want me to.”
