MY class, Year Six, were investigating Spain on the European Day of Languages.
In the morning half the class were asked to make flash cards as their challenge. They used the internet to translate the names of things from English to Spanish.
They had 12 words to translate and then make flash cards for each word using the computers. Mrs Diaz (the mother of one of one of the pupils) came in to help with the pronunciation.
At playtime the two halves of the class swapped over and the half that had been making flash cards went to research Spain in the computer suite.
They looked at different topics such as bullfighting, dancing artists and food. They then made a short report using the computers.
In the afternoon assembly 12 pupils from Year Six stood up at the front and spoke Spanish.
They said “me llamo” which means “my name is” and “como se llama” which means “what’s your name?” I said “me nombre” instead of “me llamo”. My sister thought I had made a mistake but it means the same thing.
