Businesses quizzed over problems

A CUMBRIAN businesswoman is seeking information from small business owners in the county to take to a government minister.

Hazel Duhy, women’s enterprise ambassador for the Northwest Regional Development Agency, is attending a series of meetings with Business and Enterprise Secretary John Hutton, who is also the MP for Barrow.

Prominent members of the NWDA will also be present.

The delegation is keen to hear about problems encountered by owners of small firms in Cumbria, particularly in relation to technology.

“A lot of micro-business owners cannot get broadband, which is proving a real problem,” said Hazel.

“There are areas of the county, even in the middle of Carlisle, that can’t get it and it is holding people back.

“It’s an issue we are keen to hear more about so that it can be addressed.”
