MINI litter rangers have been on a mission to clean up their streets.
Pupils from Ramsden Infant School collected sack loads of rubbish as part of the Big Tidy Up.
Around 70 five to seven-year-olds got kitted out in green tabards and gloves for the country's biggest ever litter tidy up. The children bagged up discarded paper, plastic and other items in the streets surrounding their Barrow school.
Year One and Year Two pupils made sure their school grounds were tidy before cleaning up Thwaite Street, Hannay Close, Gradwell Court, Buccleuch Court and Buccleuch Street and Whitehead Street.
During one week at the end of September the Ramsden Infant pupils filled 15 of the Big Tidy Up green bin bags.
Jo Pooley, a Year One teacher at the school said: “The children were really shocked by the amount we collected. They just could not believe it. I think it has really opened the children’s eyes. When they saw the volume of litter altogether, it brought it home to them.
“We will do it again next year.”
The children discussed the issues of litter and some children said they would like more bins in their area.
The plastics found on the streets were cleaned and added to the school’s recycling collection.
