BARROW MARKET: Does the town centre market, pictured left, lack Christmas spirit? REF: 0305301

SO the Hairy Bikers are going to switch on our fabulous lights.

Have they seen them? One row of lights at the bottom and top of Dalton Road, and also in Cavendish Street. A nice show by Marks & Sparks.

I hope they don’t go into the market. It’s dark, drab and miserable.

No Christmas lights or tinsel, but hanging from the ceiling instead are dark red swathes of net with a massive ball hanging from them. More Arabian Nights!

Even the stall holders look fed-up.

There’s no Xmas atmosphere at all.

You don’t have to go further for a nice Christmas market than Ulverston or Kendal.

There’s no encouragement to get shoppers coming here to spend their money.

I wish the stall holders in the market good luck, because they will have to get the shoppers spending.

One unhappy shopper.
