Call to return Ollie the owl to Walney

A0458159
RESCUED: Ollie the barn owl is being looked after by Pat Denny of Barrow after he fell down a chimney at North Scale Farm recently. But some people have called for him to be returned to the wild

I WOULD like to add my backing to calls to release Ollie the barn owl back into his natural environment at Home Farm from where he was rescued, (Evening Mail, Nov 13).

I read the letter by Mrs M E Wilson, (Evening Mail, Nov 15), who asks why Pat Denny is sending the owl to an animal refuge in the spring of next year?

If the bird was rescued unhurt then it should be released as near as possible to where it was found as soon as possible.

If it is injured then why didn’t the RSPCA send it to a Specialist Raptor Centre nearby, instead of to someone who has not got the right qualifications to deal with beautiful creature. The owl in question was regularly seen flying over fields and hedgerows at North Scale at dawn and dusk looking for food.

So can I ask Pat Denny for our owl back!

Let’s hope we can get Walney’s barn owl back to where it belongs.
